How do I know if I'm a candidate for LASIK?

The best way to determine your candidacy is through our FREE consultation. Generally, good candidates are 18+ years old, have a stable vision prescription for at least one year, have healthy eyes without severe dry eye or other conditions, and have realistic expectations about the results. Our comprehensive evaluation will determine if LASIK is right for you.

What's included in the free consultation?

Your free consultation includes a virtual or in-person meeting with our medical staff, preliminary vision assessment, discussion of your lifestyle and vision goals, review of LASIK and alternative procedures, personalized treatment recommendations, and detailed pricing and financing options.

How do I schedule a consultation?

You can schedule your FREE consultation by calling our Las Vegas office at (702) 945-0883 or our Reno office at (775) 452-4629. You can also schedule online through our website for either virtual or in-person consultations.

Cost and Financing

How much does LASIK cost?

LASIK costs vary based on your specific vision needs and the technology required for your procedure. We’re currently offering $1,500 OFF our regular LASIK prices for a limited time. During your free consultation, we’ll provide exact pricing based on your personalized treatment plan.

Do you offer financing?

Yes! We offer flexible financing options with $0 down and low monthly payments (O.A.C.). Our team will help you find a payment plan that fits your budget, making premium LASIK accessible and affordable.

Will insurance cover LASIK?

Most insurance plans consider LASIK an elective procedure and don’t cover it. However, you may be able to use FSA or HSA funds for LASIK. Some vision insurance plans offer discounts on LASIK procedures. Check with your insurance provider and our staff can help you understand your benefits.

How does LASIK compare to the long-term cost of contacts?

The average contact lens wearer spends $500+ annually on lenses, solutions, and cases. Over 20 years, that’s more than $10,000. LASIK is a one-time investment that typically pays for itself within 3-5 years while providing the convenience of clear vision without daily maintenance.

The LASIK Procedure

How long does the LASIK procedure take?

The actual LASIK procedure is remarkably quick – typically less than 2 minutes per eye. You’ll be in our office for about 2 hours total, which includes preparation, the procedure, and post-operative instructions.

Is LASIK painful?

LASIK is virtually painless. We use numbing eye drops before the procedure, so you won’t feel pain during surgery. Some patients experience a mild pressure sensation. After surgery, you may have minor discomfort or a gritty feeling for a few hours, which is easily managed with the prescribed eye drops.

What technology do you use?

Dr. Rothman uses only state of the art lasers and the latest FDA-approved technology for safer, more precise treatments. Our advanced technology allows for customized treatment based on your unique eye measurements, ensuring optimal results.

What's the difference between LASIK and PRK?

Both LASIK and PRK reshape the cornea to correct vision, but they differ in approach. LASIK creates a thin flap in the cornea, while PRK removes the outer layer of the cornea. LASIK typically has faster recovery, while PRK may be better for patients with thin corneas or certain lifestyle factors. We’ll recommend the best option during your consultation.

Recovery and Results

How soon can I return to normal activities?

Most patients return to work within 24-48 hours after LASIK. You can resume most normal activities immediately, but should avoid swimming pools, hot tubs, and contact sports for about 2 weeks. We’ll provide detailed post-operative instructions specific to your lifestyle.

When will I see results?

Many patients notice improved vision immediately after the procedure, with vision continuing to improve over the first 24-48 hours. Most achieve their final vision results within 1-3 months as the eyes fully heal.

What results can I expect?

While individual results vary, our goal is to reduce or eliminate your dependence on glasses and contacts. Many patients achieve 20/20 vision or better. During your consultation, we’ll discuss realistic expectations based on your specific vision prescription.

Are LASIK results permanent?

LASIK permanently reshapes your cornea, so the correction is permanent. However, LASIK doesn’t prevent age-related changes like presbyopia (need for reading glasses after 40). Some patients may experience minor vision changes over many years, but significant regression is rare.

Safety and Experience

Is LASIK safe?

LASIK is one of the most studied elective procedures with over 30 years of research and refinement. Serious complications are extremely rare. Our use of premium technology and Dr. Rothman’s 25+ years of experience further enhance safety. We’ll discuss all risks and benefits during your consultation.

How experienced is Dr. Rothman?

Dr. Richard Rothman brings over 25 years of specialized LASIK experience to every procedure. He has performed tens of thousands of successful surgeries and stays current with the latest advances in vision correction technology and techniques.

What do your patients say?

We’re proud of our 4.9 average rating on Facebook (197 reviews) and Google (150 reviews), and 4.5 on Yelp (128 reviews). Patients consistently praise our caring staff, advanced technology, and life-changing results. Many say their only regret is not having LASIK sooner!

Special Considerations

Can I have LASIK if I have dry eyes?

A mild dry eye doesn’t automatically disqualify you from LASIK. We’ll evaluate your tear production during your consultation and may recommend pre-treatment if needed. For severe dry eyes, PRK might be a better option.

Is Nevada's dry climate a concern for LASIK?

Our doctors are experienced in treating patients in Nevada’s dry climate. We provide comprehensive post-operative care instructions and medications to ensure comfortable healing. Many patients find LASIK more comfortable than contacts in dry conditions.

Can I have LASIK if I'm pregnant or nursing?

We recommend waiting until after pregnancy and nursing to have LASIK, as hormonal changes can affect vision stability and healing. Schedule your consultation to plan your procedure timing.

What if I need reading glasses in the future?

LASIK corrects distance vision but doesn’t prevent presbyopia (age-related need for reading glasses after 40). We can discuss options like monovision LASIK, where one eye is corrected for distance and one for near vision.
