In this I LOVE MY LASIK review, Justin goes over all the factors that went into his choice to do Lasik, and WHAT eye doctor he wanted to perform his surgery.

My name is Justin Hammer; I got the procedure done about 8 months ago.

I decided to get LASIK because I was just generally sick of needing help to see. I’ve been between glasses and contacts ever since I was in the 4th grade. They’re an inconvenience, my kids pull them off my face, and I’m relatively clumsy, so I would break my glasses all the time, leave them on the ground, step on them…it was just time for me, I really wanted to see like normal people.

I did a fair amount of research before I got the procedure done, I would say my wife did a lot more of it for me on my behalf…especially if you count listening to talk radio and sports stations where you hear commercials all the time. I knew that most of that was paid, so I wanted to get people that weren’t paid and see what they had to say about it, so I went on the internet and I read testimonials from a bunch of patients from different doctors and it seemed like Dr Rothman was the best choice.

The LASIK of Nevada staff is very friendly and courteous. They make you feel really at ease about the procedure, and a lot of them have had it done themselves, and so they can relate to you personally about it. I’ve always felt that they would answer any question that I have. They were very friendly, very smiley, there’s candy at the office…it’s generally a good experience to go into the office.

The day of the procedure, I was obviously a little bit nervous, but I’d say probably more excited. There are other people there, and they’re going through the process and the steps and the preparation and stuff. So you get to see what you’re about to go through, and there were people coming out as you’re going in, so you got to see what that was like. It was exciting; I knew that going in it was the last time I was going to be wearing my glasses, so that felt really cool. They were very nice. Dr Rothman came in, he gave you a nice little pill that helped put us at ease, it was a lot of fun, and he was also just very, very friendly, very cordial. He told you exactly what to expect, exactly what was going to happen, what you were going to feel, whether there was going to be pressure, just everything that was about to happen. He spoke to every single one of us individually before we went in there. And once I was actually in there, it was quicker than I expected. It felt like it was about a minute per eye, it was painless, he was telling you what he was doing as he was doing it, and so you never really had to wonder or be afraid. You knew what was happening as it was happening, and it was a relatively a pain free, quick experience.

The results have been great! Last time I went in, I was 20/15; they said I was leaning more towards 20/10. I could see great! Better than I ever have in my entire life, even with glasses. There are the little things in life you don’t even realize you’re missing out on, like just being able to see what’s happening in your room when you’re in the shower. It’s exactly what I expected, nothing’s happening, but at least I can see it, and it’s a new experience. It’s weird, the first time I got to do it, waking up, I still reach over to grab my glasses sometimes because its been so long, but I can just see, I see the alarm clock, I can see my room, my wife, my kids, I don’t have to do anything, it’s just there. The results have been amazing; I really regret not doing it sooner.

It’s changed my life, just great! I don’t have to wear glasses anymore; I finally got out of the habit of pushing up something that’s not there. It took a couple of months, but I just had to play it off like I was itching my nose all the time, but there’s actually, there’s nothing there. I don’t have to push them up anymore. Just a whole lot of little things that made life much more convenient being able to see without help.

It was definitely worth the investment. Just aside from the fact that I’m not spending money on glasses or contacts, or eye doctor exams anymore, aside from that, of all the stuff I do in my life that I spend money on – buying furniture, buying patio, or doing my backyard – all the stuff that you have to put an investment in, how much of it do you use every single day, or every single second of every single day? So just from that aspect it’s worth every penny that I had to spend on it. Like I said, I wish I had done it sooner.
