Dr. Rothman of LASIK of Nevada explains whether LASIK can reduce the need for reading glasses.

Can LASIK reduce the need for reading glasses? Well, it depends what age you are.

If you’re below the age of 40, and we use LASIK to correct you to distance vision, you will not need reading glasses, and you’ll just undergo the normal aging process just like everybody else.

If you’re over the age of 40, or, as I like to say, “Celebrating the anniversary of your 39th birthday,” and we correct you to distance vision, you’re probably going to need some help reading up close.

Now the best solution of all over the age of 40 is what we call Monovision. And with Monovision, we can actually have people seeing distance and near vision without glasses at the same time. And it is a truly remarkable procedure.
